UPDATE: Fri 5:30PM: I just snuck a taste of this. Can you say yummy? I thought you could. They honey is evident in both the aroma a taste. The darker roasted malts are also in the nose. The malt taste has hints of chocolate and mocha coffee. I think you’ll be impressed.
Gregorious is dark ale made with local, organic honey. It weighs in at 9.7%, but drinks much softer. Be careful this holy beer is seductive.
The The first keg will be tapped at 5:30 on Monday. It’s a small brewery and the next shipment is expected to arrive in late December/early January.
Stift Engleszell, located in Austria was founded in 1293 as a Cistercian monastery. It’s the eighth and newest Trappist Monastery to commercially produce Trappist Ales. Stift Engleszell was granted membership in the International Trappist Association in September. That’s good company indeed: 1) Achel; 2) Chimay; 3) Koningshoeven; 4) Orval; 5) Rochefort; 6) Westmalle; 7) Westvletern and now 8) Stift Engleszell.
They currently craft only two beers, Benno, their 7.2%abv blond ale; and Gregorius. They are shipping only kegs at this point, but expect bottles to arrive sometime in 2013. Event details here.
