Sierra Nevada – What Happens In Beer Camp Doesn’t Stay In Beer Camp: WNC Beer Camp # 81 & 82

We brought you news of these special Sierra Nevada North Carolina releases over the weekend and now more details on Beer Camp #81 and 82 from Sierra Nevada:

Two special brews created by 14 Western North Carolina breweries at Sierra Nevada’s Beer Camp are in North Carolina for a short time. At least one of the two is available at every participating brewery while both will be available at Highland Brewing Company, who worked in both groups. Eagerly awaited by the two teams of campers, these two beers are completely different styles, showcasing the breadth of creativity and style in brewing.

Beer Camp #81 created Carolina Dreamin’, a red wheatwine. It is a cousin to the better known barleywine, but brewed with wheat(50%). This big, rich ale has a mild caramel flavor and bready character from the wheat malt with notes of grapefruit and peach from a blend of Galaxy and Nelson Sauvin hops, which share the fruity characteristics of a chardonnay.
ABV: 9.0% —– IBU: 41

Beer Camp #82 brewed The Headliner, a sessionable black ale with toasted malt character and a creamy body, accentuated with an experimental, and yet un-named, hop varietal for dry hopping, creating a bold, almost berry-like aroma. This interesting and complex medium-bodied beer is well-balanced with a dry, drinkable finish.
ABV: 5.3% —— IBU: 53

100% of the proceeds from both brews will be donated to these and other nonprofits.

The Abbey of New Clairevaux – A Cistercian abbey near Sierra Nevada where the campers learned about the lives and efforts to rebuild a monastery using stones from an 800 year old Spanish abbey.
