Atwater Brewery - Whango Wheat Ale, Corktown Rye IPA, DIrty Blonde, Tunnel Ram & Going Steady IPA

This is Whango from Atwater Brewery in Detroit, MI. This wheat ale will be packaged in 12oz bottles and the beer will hit 4.9%-AbV and 14 IBU. We also have Corktown Rye IPA (6.2%-AbV, 63 IBU), Tunnel Ram Imperial Bock (7.5%-AbV, 28 IBU) & Going Steady Session IPA berwed with grapefruit (4.6%-AbV, 55 IBU). As you can see below, these will all likely hit bottles and cans.

Spring is in the air and “Whango” mango wheat fruit ale from Atwater Brewery is in the bottles.

Whango is Atwater’s popular seasonal beer and one of its fruitiest, most flavorful brews. Softly sweet and tropically aromatic, Whango is an American-style wheat beer similar but less yeasty than its German Weizen (or wheat ) cousins.

In 2016, the Whango product had completely sold out just a couple of months into its run. For 2017, Atwater owner Mark Rieth has committed to increasing production five-fold, although he said even much of this run is already committed via retail purchase orders.

Recognizable to taste buds through its unique mango flavor, Whango is recognizable to the eye through its unique packaging – a shaggy-haired surfer dude with only his paddleboard standing between him and the salmony/pinky/orangey/yellow Detroit skyline. (The paddleboard pays homage to their growing presence on the Belle Isle shoreline in Detroit; the colors pay homage to spring and summer.)

Whango is a succulent mango-juiced wheat ale delivers capacious stone fruiting over honeyed Graham Cracker sweetness and floral-perfumed hop splotch as lightly phenol carbolic spritz adds lemony seltzer-like tartness to latently downplay tangy mango piquancy. Syrupy peach, apricot and nectarine pureeing outdoes up-front mango adjunct over time. In the bottle, tangy mango, peach, tangerine and nectarine sweetness picks up cinnamon apple influence to contrast diacetyl gin-like juniper berry dryness.
