Susquehanna Brewing Co. Wins Gold at World Beer Cup

Pittston, PA • May 10, 2016 — When Susquehanna Brewing Co. touts that their beer is “brewed right,” it’s not just because they personally think so. Susquehanna claimed a gold award in the 2016 World Beer Cup, a global beer competition regarded as the “Olympics of Beer Competition,” that evaluates beers from around the world and recognizes the most outstanding brewers and their beers.

Gold, silver and bronze awards in the competition’s 96 beer-style categories were presented May 6, 2016 during the World Beer Cup award ceremony at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. 

Susquehanna Brewing Co. was awarded a gold award in the fruit beer style category for its Shady Spot Shandy, a lemonade-infused ale brewed the traditional dry, English-style way that makes the perfect quencher on a hot summer’s day. Shady Spot is the most handcrafted brew in Susquehanna’s lineup. Each batch of the lemon mixture that goes into the ale-based brew is carefully blended by hand. Susquehanna Brewing Co. is a 50 barrel craft brewery located in Pittston, Pennsylvania, USA whose specialty since opening in 2012 has been leveraging their families’ six generations of beer brewing heritage to craft perfect, drinkable beer that appeals to the taste buds of today’s market, and is produced in an environmentally responsible fashion. World Beer Cup winners were selected by an international panel of 253 beer judges from 31 countries and the competition saw an impressive field of 6,596 entries from 1,907 breweries in 55 countries. 

The World Beer Cup gold award, while the most esteemed, is not Susquehanna Brewing Co.’s first high-caliber award they’ve won since opening in 2012. Most recently, Southern Rye IPA took home a bronze for the 2016 Best of Craft Beer Awards in the Specialty IPA category. In October, Susquehanna’s Goldencold Lager took home a bronze medal in the Munich-Style Helles category at the 2015 Great American Beer Festival®. Earlier in 2015, the brewery won 3 medals in the Best of Craft Beer Awards competition; gold medals for Pils-Noir and So-Wheat Ale in their respective categories (Schwarzbier and German Hefeweizen) and bronze for the Goldencold Lager in the Helles category. In 2014, Susquehanna was voted a winner in the Best Brewery Tour category in USA Today’s 10 Best Readers’ Choice travel award contest. They also took home the “Best IPA” award from the Atlantic City Beer and Music Fest.

Beau Baden joined the Susquehanna Brewing Co. team last month as Brew Master. Beau won many prestigious brewing awards throughout his career; among them are four medals from the Real Ale Festival in Chicago; two Gold, one silver, and seven bronze medals at the Great American Beer Festival; and two World Beer Cup medals.
