In honor of San Diego Beer Week 2016, we invite you to head down to our Tasting Room & Beer Garden to celebrate with Taylor Guitars and Karl Strauss for the release of our long-anticipated collaboration beer: 614 Farmhouse Ale!
Beginning at 4pm on Friday 11/11, enjoy some 614 Farmhouse Ale, live music, and good times at the Tasting Room. A limited run of 22oz bombers will be made available on a first-come-first-serve basis, so be sure to get there early!
Can’t make it to the Tasting Room on Friday? Do. Not. Panic. Head down to your neighborhood Karl Strauss brewpub location. Each pub will have 2 glorious kegs of 614 Farmhouse Ale to tap on Friday – so there are plenty of places to celebrate!
Taylor Guitars and Karl Strauss have teamed up to create a beer that celebrates the best of both our industries. Inspired by a trip to the Skagit Valley—an environmentally forward-thinking community known for its production of sustainable maple and world class malt— 614 (Six Fourteen) is a Farmhouse Ale with lively aromas and flavors of lemon zest, Belgian spice, and toasted notes from the addition of torrefied maple wood. 614 is dynamic and expressive, whether you’re strumming the guitar or sipping the beer.
The Story Behind the Collaboration…
SAN DIEGO, CA – November 10, 2016) – Karl Strauss Brewing Company and Taylor Guitars have collaborated on a unique Farmhouse Ale for San Diego Beer Week that was brewed using sustainable ingredients and reflects the best of their respective, award-winning crafts.
The two iconic San Diego-based companies have been big fans of each other for a long time. They’ve spent the last two years collaborating on a project to bring beer and music together. The idea for 614 was inspired by the Skagit Valley in Washington — an environmentally friendly community known for its rich soil, idyllic climate and progressive thinking. Skagit Valley is where Taylor Guitars sources a portion of their wood and where they’ve planted the seeds for future harvests of maple for their 600 series of maple acoustic guitars. The region is also home to Skagit Valley Malting, a producer of world-class specialty malts that are grown in the area. When KARL’s team learned of the work Taylor was doing in Skagit Valley to promote more sustainable forestry practices, they decided to take a trip up North for inspiration.
The two teams returned from Washington with the idea to craft a beer highlighting maple wood and the world-class malt being produced in Skagit Valley. They decided to brew a Farmhouse Ale, a style known for having a crisp, bright flavor — characteristics similar to the tonal qualities of Taylor’s 600 series.

The resulting brew, 614 (Six Fourteen) has lively aromas and flavors of lemon zest, Belgian spice and toasted notes from torrefied maple wood. The team named the brew "614" after the flagship model in Taylor’s 600 series of guitars.
A very limited amount of hand-bottled 22oz bombers of 614 will be sold exclusively at the Karl Strauss Tasting Room in Pacific Beach (PB). To celebrate the release of 614, the Taylor crew will be at KARL’s Tasting Room in PB this Friday where Taylor artist Wayne Johnson will perform live at 6 PM. The beer will also be available on draft at the Tasting Room, at all Karl Strauss Brewpub locations and in select bars & restaurants starting Friday while supplies last.
