Chuckanut Rauch Marzen Lager Now on Tap

Smoky and complex Rauch Lager is back on tap at Chuckanut Brewery & Kitchen at 601 W. Holly St, Bellingham and soon at the South Nut Tap Room in Skagit. This unusual lager beer is brewed at Chuckanut only a couple of times each year so make sure to get in and try it! Amber in color with a complicated malt structure Rauch Marzen Lager has hints of smoke flavoring the beer. As the beer ages the beechwood smokiness becomes more subdued and settles into the overall flavors of the beer. Even though this beer has multiple layers of flavors it’s  a lager that finishes clean and smooth.

Originating in Bamberg, Germany Rauch utilizes malted barley that has been smoked with beechwood from the forests around the town. Chuckanut’s Rauch uses Weyermann smoked beechwood malts to give it a smooth, smoky malty flavor and just enough hops to balance out the sweetness of that malt. This is a beer that’s great with food, any food including mac & cheese with smoked salmon, or a beer braised brat, or even a bacon bleu cheese salad that picks up on the smokiness of the bacon. Catch this unusual beer before it’s all gone, you never know when it will be available again.
