Upslope Brewing Voluntarily Recalls Cans of Craft Lager & Belgian Style Blonde w/Guava Due to Potential Sour Taste

Upslope Brewing Co. has initiated a voluntary withdrawal of cans of two of its core beers after discovering an “off,” sour-like taste during a recent quality assurance test. The taste developed as the result of a beer spoilage organism that is intentionally used in certain styles of beer, & is not harmful to consumers’ safety or health. The organism was identified by Upslope’s quality assurance laboratory and was remedied within 48 hours. Upslope will be pulling all affected styles from wholesale warehouses, its in-house storage facility, as well as regional retail locations effective immediately, and will redistribute fresh beer beginning Tuesday, September 12.

The affected styles include Craft Lager & Belgian Style Blonde with Guava—CANS ONLY. The Craft Lager cans fall within the specific “best-by” date range of 10/19/17 to 01/03/18. The Belgian Style Blonde Ale with Guava cans fall within the specific “best by” date range of 10/25/17 & 12/08/17. The affected Upslope Mix Boxes fall within the specific “best by” date range of 9/14/17 to 11/28/17.

After conducting extensive sensory tests, cans stored at cool temperatures did not exhibit off-flavors; however, the issue was apparent after cans were stored at warmer & room temperatures for three weeks or more. The withdrawn beers were both sold in Upslope 6 packs, as well as Craft Lager 12-packs and Mix Box 12 packs. Draft varieties of the beers produced during the same time have not been affected.

Since discovered, our team has implemented the appropriate procedural changes, and we plan to replenish your refrigerators with Craft Lager and Belgian Style Blonde as soon as possible.”

Customers who have purchased any of the recalled products are urged to return to the retail location where the beer was purchased for an exchange or complete refund.
