I’ll admit I don’t usually drink a lot of lighter beers, and while I don’t typically count my calories, I do know that some beer drinkers do.  I do make it a point to sample some of the light beers on the market and today we’re going to highlight one that I think you’ll want to try.

Today we’re sampling Music City Light, and if you’re not familiar, this beer comes from Music City Beer in Nashville, TN.  The company was founded by Quinn O’Sullivan, Amy Millslagle and Jon Robb with the goal of creating a beer that celebrates the Nashville experience.  Music City Light was born in Nov 2016 and it is brewed by Derrick Morse of Mantra Artisan Ales.

The goal of this beer is to not only enhance the Nashville experience, but also to create a beer that bridges the gap between traditional “craft” beer and the large macro-brewed light lagers.  So how did they do?  Well…we were lucky enough to get our hands on a few bottles of Music City Light…so off we go.

The beer pours a bright golden straw color with a subtle citrus aroma.  We found some light spice in the aromas as well as a bit of lemon.  The flavors lead with citrus as well, and we liked the light body and mouthfeel.  This beer is really refreshing and really drinkable.  It has a clean and crisp finish and we found it well balanced and flavorable.

Music City Light has 132 calories per 12oz serving so if you are counting calories, this is about the same as many lighter beers.  You’ll also find the 4.7%-AbV very sessionable and as I mentioned already, the beer is very easy drinking.

I do think Music City Light does fit well between a traditional craft beer and the mass-produces light lagers already on the market.  To me it is unique and flavorful enough to stand out in a crowded segment and I am excited to see how their new Music City Broadway Blonde beer does as well.  I’m also excited to try a Music City Light the next time I’m actually in Nashville, TN to see for myself how the beer celebrates Music City.
