Mybeerbuzz .com Highlights Wild Leap Alpha Abstraction Vol 12 (Review)

I don’t get my hands on Georgia beers nearly enough, so it’s always exciting when I see a zip code like 30240 on a package arriving at Mybeerbuzz headquarters. If you’ve memorized your zip codes or you’re fast with searching, you’ll know that this is the zip code is for LaGrange, GA…and if you know your Georgia-beer, you’ll know that means Wild Leap Brew Co.

Started by friends Anthony Rodriguez and Rob Goldstein, with head brewer Chris Elliot in early 2017, Wild Leap got it’s start and I’m happy to say that they have been brewing innovative and creative beers ever since.

Today I’m lucky enough to get to try the latest release from the Alpha Abstraction Double IPA Series, called Alpha Abstraction Vol. 12. This series seeks to create really juice-forward DIPAs and as Chris Elliot puts it,

“Our goal for the Alpha series was to create a beer that tastes as close to fruit juice as possible
using only water, malt, hops and barley.  We first experimented with Belma hops in pilot batches and the results were phenomenal. Out
of those pilot batches came some of our favorite IPAs to date.”

Volume 12 uses Belma hops and I can’t wait to try it, so off we go…

Wild Leap Alpha Abstraction Vol 12

ABV:  8%
Style:  DIPA w/Belma Hops
IBU:  44
Packaging:  12oz cans
Appearance:  Bright golden orange
Aroma:   Citrus, citrus and more citrus
Mouthfeel:   Medium with good carbonation
Taste:   Slightly tart citrus dominates the flavors with some nicely sweet berries and tangerine mixed in.
Overall:  This beer definitely screams fruit-forward, fruit juice and citrus.  There is a nice play of tart and sweet orange flavors and some really nice berry flavors that I really liked.  The balance leans heavily into fruit-forward but the beer finishes clean and really drinkable despite it’s higher AbV.
