Firestone Walker Releases “Sunglider” Seasonal Golden Lager
I brought you an early peek at this beer back in March 2025, and an early sampling in June, 2025, and now this update from Firestone Walker in Paso Robles, California:
Spring Seasonal Brewed with California-Grown Floor Malted Barley
Paso Robles, CA — Firestone Walker today announced the return of Sunglider Golden Lager, a limited-batch seasonal release and the latest chapter in the brewery’s “Brewing for Tomorrow” sustainability initiative.
Made with California-grown floor malted barley, Sunglider is a crisp, refreshing lager that honors flavor and sustainability with every sip. At 5% ABV, Sunglider hits the sweet spot: light-bodied with notes of wildflower honey, water cracker, and a crisp, drying finish that keeps you coming back for more.
“Sunglider is a delicious easy-to-drink lager that doubles as a conversation starter,” said Brewmaster Matt Brynildson. “It’s a beer that raises the right questions and helps us imagine new ways of lowering our footprint, all while supporting West Coast growers and maltsters who share our vision.”
Sunglider was brewed with a specialty barley developed by the University of California, Davis and grown in and around the nearby Sacramento region. Called “Butta-12,” this barley variety was specifically bred to thrive in the native conditions of California’s Central Valley.
The harvested barley underwent traditional floor malting at Admiral Maltings, located in Alamada on San Francisco Bay. Sunglider also features Willamette hops grown at Goschie Farms in Silverton, Oregon, the first-ever U.S. hop farm to receive Salmon-Safe certification.
“The closer you can source your raw materials, and the more you can support providers who do things the right way, the smaller the footprint of the resulting beer,” Brynildson said.
Sunglider (6-pack 12oz cans) is available at Firestone Walker’s three brewery locations and at select accounts in all Firestone Walker markets.
Brewing for Tomorrow
Sunglider is rooted in Firestone Walker’s “Brewing for Tomorrow” initiative—an ongoing 360-degree effort to minimize the brewery’s carbon footprint and conserve natural resources, using both cutting-edge technologies and time-honored resourcefulness.
In late 2025, Firestone Walker launched a state-of-the-art carbon dioxide (CO2) recovery system, which saves four million pounds of emissions annually. The brewery’s on-site solar arrays offset 60 percent of the facility’s energy needs, and an additional five acres of solar panels will be constructed later this year. Forty million gallons of processing water is treated annually and returned to the local aquifer, and 20 million pounds of spent brewing grains are recovered and fed to local livestock each year.
“As we celebrate our 30th anniversary year as a California craft brewery, we’re still excited about exploring new beers and technologies that help make a difference,” said Nick Firestone.
