Braxton Brewing Introduces Beta 3.0 — Spotlight White IPA Coming 1/6

The Braxton Beta series is a vehicle for our brewing team to explore the IPA style. We tinker, create, iterate and improve on what we’ve done in the past. Braxton Beta 3.0 is the newest exploration.
As we innovate on the IPA style, we also will stretch the boundaries of what “IPA” means. We don’t expect all of our Beta IPA’s to be traditional and 3.0 is a step in that direction.
Our team loves hops. And Belgians. So, when it came time to create something new for our next Beta, we chose the White IPA style. A marriage of a Belgian Wit and American IPA — a very harmonious marriage.
We brewed Beta 3.0 with 100% Citra hops to compliment the use of Orange Peel and Coriander in this White IPA. You’re going to love the result.
Beta 3.0 is hazy in appearance but features citrus packed aromas and flavors contributed by copious amounts of Citra hops and orange peel. The overall profile of the beer is quickly followed up with notes of spice that arise from the addition of Coriander and a Belgian Yeast strain. At 6.0% ABV this beer is medium to light in body with a crisp, dry finish.

It’s a new year and new beer for Braxton Brewing Co. The Covington-based brewery will be releasing Spotlight White IPA in cans in the first week of 2017. This 100% Citra-hopped, 6.0% ABV IPA was brewed with orange peel and coriander.
The first seasonal can in our lineup for the year is truly important as it sets the tone for the rest of the year. Based off of our own experimentation and feedback from our fans, we saw an opportunity to put our spin on a unique IPA,” said Jake Rouse, Braxton Brewing Co. Co-Founder & CEO. “Spotlight is a unique beer and we can’t wait for you to get your hands on it!”
The 6-pack, 12 oz. cans will be available at select retailers and liquor stores across the brewing company’s distribution network in Northern Kentucky, Cincinnati, Dayton, Lexington and Louisville. It will also be available at bars and restaurants on draft. This is the first of four new packaged products that Braxton Brewing Co. will be releasing in early 2017.
Braxton Brewing Co. has been using its Beta series as an opportunity to create, iterate and tinker with the classic IPA style. Beta 3.0, an experimental White IPA, was so popular, the brewing team decided that it would make a great seasonal can. Further recipe development led the Covington-based brewery to create Spotlight — a blend between the American IPA and Belgian Wit. It’s a beautifully balanced beer for January and February.
“We’ve always loved exploring exciting styles of beer, and Spotlight is no different. Through several conversations with customers at our Beta tests, our brewers were excited to create a single hopped White IPA,” said Evan Rouse, Braxton Brewing Co. Co-Founder & COO. “Citra hops balance perfectly with the orange peel and coriander to serve up a unique style of IPA.”
The can’s description reads, “Take a look at the deep straw body and cloudy head filled glass. We bet you’ll get caught staring. With high hop character and refreshing notes of fruit and spice, this specialty IPA is a perfectly brewed union of two distinct beer styles; the American IPA and wheat based Belgian Wit.”
Braxton Brewing Company will tap Spotlight and release cans in their taproom on Friday, January 6th. Cans will be delivered to retail outlets beginning in the first week of January.
Helping bring this brand to life, Braxton Brewing Co. has worked with Durham Brand & Co. to create Spotlight’s seasonal brand and can design.

This Friday, we’re tapping Spotlight White IPA and releasing it in cans. This is a new beer to Braxton and a new style to many. We can’t wait to lift one to life with you but before we do that, we wanted to let you know what exactly is a White IPA, why we’re brewing it and why you will want it.

First, a white IPA is a hybrid style that combines the characteristics of a Belgian Witbier with an American IPA. The goal in our interpretation of the style is to create a more interesting, flavorful IPA, and to marry the bright citrus notes of the hops (Citra in this case) with the complex flavors of bitter orange peel and coriander seed that are typically used in witbiers.
Listen, we like the straightforward character of a good American IPA as much as the next bunch of brewers…but we were intrigued by the idea of a beer that would provide plenty of hop character while being less one-dimensional. It was with this goal in mind that we first dreamt up Spotlight.
The first time we brewed this style, we released it under our experimental IPA series, as Beta 3.0. The reception was so positive that we decided to refine the recipe, brew a whole lot more of it, and put it in cans for your enjoyment. This is the first time a beer from our Beta series has been scaled up in this way, but I’m certain it won’t be the last.
