DuClaw Brewing : This March, Give a Crap and Help Flush Colorectal Cancer

From DuClaw:

DuClaw Brewing Company, Squatty Potty, and Biomerica team to launch a campaign and giveaway to raise awareness and funds for the Colon Cancer Foundation during National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month.

March 17, 2022 – This March, in honor of National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, DuClaw Brewing Company is once again joining forces with Squatty Potty to raise funds for the Colon Cancer Foundation (CCF) to help flush colorectal cancer—the second most common cancer in the U.S.

To increase awareness directly on shelves, DuClaw just dropped ‘Give a Crap’ a limited-edition sour ale, brewed with blueberry, black currant, and vanilla. Partial proceeds will be donated to the CCF.

Each can displays an iconic rainbow poop emoji and a QR code that links to the “Weekly Digest,” a digital blog magazine filled with educational content on colorectal cancer, survivor stories, and entertaining pieces including bathroom horror stories, horoscopes, and more.

“Colorectal cancer gets a misleading reputation as an old person’s disease. Forty-five is the new 50. With cases trending younger every year, it’s important to understand the signs and symptoms of colorectal cancer. Don’t ASSume that blood in your stool is hemorrhoids,” said Cindy Borassi, president of the CCF.

“Talking openly about poop can be pretty uncomfortable, but that’s exactly why we chose to launch this campaign with a few crappy jokes.”

Each can will feature statistics relating to colorectal cancer, including these facts:

  • Colorectal cancer is the #2 leading cause of cancer death among men and women in the U.S.
  • Adults in the U.S. have a 1 in 24 risk of developing colorectal cancer in their lifetime.
  • Regular colorectal cancer screening is now recommended for adults 45 years old and older.
  • African Americans are at higher risk, with 20% higher incidence rates and 40% higher death rates.
  • In 2020, the average colorectal cancer screening rates dropped by 64%.
  • The five-year survival rate for colorectal cancer is 90% when caught at an early stage.

On Monday, March 7th, DuClaw launched a weekly giveaway on its Facebook page, encouraging donations for the CCF. Every entry will give people the chance to win one of 20 prize packs, including a Squatty Potty, DuClaw exclusive merch, and a pack of Biomerica EZ Detect™ Colon Disease Tests, an FDA approved, simple at-home test to determine if there is blood in your stool. This kit was recently featured on Jimmy Fallon, and in a viral TikTok.

“We’ll also be encouraging folks to text ‘poop’ to 512-920-5521 to make a tax-deductible donation to the Colon Cancer Foundation,” said Borassi. “It’s simple. Drink delicious craft beer and give a crap. The butt you save could be your own.”

Agencies who worked on the campaign include 212 Communications, Socially Determined, and Elevation Advertising.
