First low-calorie, low-carb offering from award-winning coastal brewery centers on popular IPA style, available throughout the Pacific Northwest PACIFIC CITY, Ore. (Oct. 15, 2026) — Pelican Brewing Company is wading into the light beer category by tackling a high-stakes beer style in the Pacific Northwest: IPA. The new Pelican Lite IPA, a full-flavored, low-carb and low-calorie brew for beer lovers, is crafted specially for the region’s active lifestyle. With three grams of carbs and 122 calories in one 12-ounce serving, this is a feel-good IPA that doesn’t sacrifice flavor. Featuring notes of crisp citrus and pine, with a clean, dry finish and vibrant hop character, Pelican Lite IPA is flavorful without being filling. With just a fraction of the carbs and roughly half the calories of traditional IPAs, Pelican Lite IPA could be expected to be light on taste and drinkability. However, the brew’s ABV of 5.4%, an anomaly in the light beer category, gives the beverage its body and allows it to stand up well on its own or paired with a meal. As Pelican celebrates 30 years in business, this new release proves the brewery’s passion for craft innovation continues to define the brand and shows no signs of slowing down. IPAs have consistently been a favorite style among the Pacific Northwest’s discerning craft brew drinkers, and formulating a recipe for a light version that would live up to PNW expectations could have a been a daunting process for some. Pelican, however, embraced the journey and experimented with several variations until finding the right recipe. “We set out to craft a light beer that would hit all the marks of a traditional IPA, from the first sip to the last,” said Darron Welch, Pelican’s Founding Brewmaster. “Cutting carbs and calories didn’t mean we had to scale back on the flavor experience, and as a result, beer lovers now have a wider choice in how to cap off their latest Pacific Northwest adventure.” Pelican Lite IPA is brewed and packaged in Pelican’s Tillamook production brewery and is available in six-packs, 12-ounce cans, 50-liter kegs and 1/6 barrels at all Pelican Brewing locations and select retailers throughout Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Northern California. The new low-cal, low-carb IPA is already hitting store shelves. Find a local retailer by visiting pelicanbrewing.com/beer-finder/. Light versions of other Pelican favorites will join the lineup in 2027. About Pelican Brewing Company Born at the beach in 1996, Pelican Brewing Company is celebrating 30 years as Oregon’s only beachfront brewpub and one of the state’s most-decorated breweries (450+ awards). Playful but not frivolous, Pelican brews with purpose, passion and deep respect for the craft. The brewery operates coastal restaurants in Pacific City, Cannon Beach, Siletz Bay, Rockaway and Yachats; a production facility and taproom in Tillamook. Pelican beers can be found at Pelican locations and in stores across Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Northern California. Learn more on the Pelican Brewing website or Instagram.

Deschutes Schweet Break Hard Lemonade

Deschutes Schweet Break Hard Lemonade is a new malt beverage coming from Deschutes Brewery in Bend, Oregon, and the first look at the can makes it clear this one is aiming for something bright, playful and built for warm-weather drinking. The new Deschutes Schweet Break Hard Lemonade features real lemons, a touch of natural sweetness and a lightly sparkling finish, with the surfing lemon character riding a wave right across the label. It is a different direction from the hop-forward IPAs and traditional ales that many drinkers associate with Deschutes, but hard lemonade gives the Oregon brewery another way to reach people looking for a refreshing alternative to beer.

The numbers are straightforward. Drschutes Schweet Break Hard Lemonade is listed at 5.0% alcohol by volume, packaged in a 12-ounce can, and described on the label as a malt beverage made with real lemon. That puts it in familiar territory for drinkers who enjoy flavored malt beverages and hard lemonade, where a recognizable fruit flavor and easy-drinking profile are often the main attractions. Deschutes is emphasizing real lemons rather than relying only on a generic citrus flavor, and the label’s description points toward a sweet-tart balance, a little carbonation and a clean, lively finish.

A new direction for Deschutes.

Deschutes Brewery has built its name around craft beer, with Bend, Oregon, serving as the home base for a brand known nationally for beers such as Black Butte Porter and Fresh Squeezed IPA. Deschutes Schweet Break Hard Lemonade adds a different kind of product to that conversation. It is not presented as an IPA or a traditional beer style, but as a malt beverage with lemon at the center, and that distinction matters because consumers have become accustomed to finding more variety in the cooler, from hop-heavy craft beer to fruit-forward drinks that suit a different occasion. A 5.0% ABV hard lemonade gives Deschutes a recognizable format while keeping the brand’s identity front and center.

The can design does plenty of work here, too. A turquoise background, bold red vertical panels and bright yellow lettering make Deschutes Schweet Break easy to spot, while the cartoon lemon surfing a curling wave gives the product a lighthearted coastal feel. It is a simple idea, but it matches the name and the flavor direction without making the packaging look overly complicated. The words “made with real lemons” are also prominent, which gives shoppers an immediate clue about what sets this hard lemonade apart from other flavored malt beverages.

There is still plenty we do not know. Deschutes has not provided a full release date, pricing, distribution details or a complete tasting description in the information currently available, so those details will matter as Deschutes Schweet Break Hard Lemonade moves closer to store shelves. For now, the can confirms the core product information: a lemon-focused malt beverage, real lemon, 5.0% ABV and a 12-ounce package. More details should help clarify where it will launch and how widely it will be distributed.

Deschutes Schweet Break Hard Lemonade gives Deschutes Brewery a new product to introduce alongside its established craft beer lineup, and the combination of a recognizable flavor, approachable strength and distinctive packaging could help it stand out in the hard lemonade category. The first look is here, and we’ll be watching for the full release announcement and availability information as they arrive.

Deschutes Brewery is an independent, family- and employee-owned craft brewery based in Bend, Oregon, with a history dating back to 1988. Founded by Gary Fish as a brewpub in downtown Bend, the company grew from a small local operation into one of the better-known craft brewing names in the Pacific Northwest. Its growth has been built around a commitment to brewing quality beer, supporting community connections and developing a lineup that includes established classics alongside new releases and experimental styles.

The original Deschutes Brewery and Public House helped establish the company’s identity as a place where craft beer and community came together. What began with a small brewing operation and a local following expanded as more drinkers discovered its beers, including Black Butte Porter, Mirror Pond Pale Ale and Fresh Squeezed IPA. Those brands helped Deschutes build recognition beyond Oregon, bringing the brewery’s take on Pacific Northwest brewing to customers across the United States.

Black Butte Porter became one of the brewery’s signature offerings, known for its dark malt character and roasted flavors. Mirror Pond Pale Ale established another part of the portfolio, offering a classic pale ale approach, while Fresh Squeezed IPA brought a more modern, hop-forward profile with citrus and tropical fruit notes. These beers demonstrate the variety that has helped define Deschutes Brewery, from traditional styles to more contemporary interpretations of craft beer.

The brewery has continued to expand its offerings with seasonal releases, specialty beers, collaborations and experimental products. Its portfolio has included barrel-aged beers, fresh hop releases, fruit-forward ales and newer takes on familiar styles. This willingness to explore different brewing approaches has allowed Deschutes to maintain its established brands while introducing products that appeal to changing consumer preferences.

That experimentation provides useful context for Schweet Break Hard Lemonade. Unlike the brewery’s traditional beer releases, Schweet Break is a malt beverage featuring real lemon, natural sweetness and light carbonation. At 5.0% alcohol by volume, the 12-ounce canned drink enters the hard lemonade category with a flavor profile that differs from the hop bitterness and malt character associated with many of the brewery’s signature beers. Its bright turquoise can, red vertical panels and animated surfing lemon give it a distinctive appearance that separates it from the familiar packaging of traditional craft beer.

Deschutes Brewery’s willingness to develop products outside its core beer styles reflects the broader changes taking place in the beverage industry, where consumers have more choices than ever across beer, hard lemonade, flavored malt beverages and other ready-to-drink options. A product such as Schweet Break gives the brewery an opportunity to reach customers looking for real lemon flavor and a refreshing alternative to conventional beer, while maintaining a connection to the Deschutes name.

The company’s brewing operations remain rooted in Bend, Oregon, where the Deschutes River and the surrounding region are central to the brewery’s identity. Deschutes has also developed a broader presence through its Portland public house, tasting experiences and retail distribution. Its beers have reached consumers throughout the country, giving the company a national footprint while preserving its connection to its Oregon beginnings.

Community involvement and environmental responsibility have also been part of Deschutes Brewery’s public identity. The company has highlighted community partnerships, conservation efforts and a commitment to creating memorable experiences around its products. Its employee- and family-owned structure distinguishes it from many larger beverage companies and remains part of the story it tells about its origins and continued operation.

With Deschutes Schweet Break Hard Lemonade, Deschutes Brewery adds another product to an evolving portfolio that already spans traditional ales, lagers, IPAs, seasonal beers and specialty releases. The new malt beverage combines real lemon, natural sweetness and 5.0% ABV in a 12-ounce can, giving the company another way to connect with drinkers who want something different from a standard craft beer.
