AleSmith Speedway Stout Cannoli

AleSmith Speedway Stout Cannoli is coming soon, and this morning we’re getting an early look at another new Speedway Stout variant from AleSmith Brewing Company in San Diego, California. This latest specialty release takes the brewery’s familiar imperial stout and gives it an Italian pastry-inspired treatment, combining vanilla, pistachios, cacao nibs, coffee, and natural flavors into a beer that checks in at a substantial 12% ABV.

The upcoming AleSmith Speedway Stout Cannoli will be packaged in 16-ounce cans, and the newly revealed artwork gives us a good idea of what the brewery has planned for this special release.

This sounds pretty good.

AleSmith Speedway Stout Cannoli brings Italian pastry flavors to Speedway Stout

According to the new packaging, AleSmith Speedway Stout Cannoli is an imperial stout brewed with vanilla, pistachios, cacao nibs, coffee, and natural flavors. The combination draws inspiration from the traditional Italian cannoli, a dessert known for its crisp pastry shell and sweet, creamy filling.

AleSmith has taken those familiar dessert characteristics and incorporated them into another variation of its popular Speedway Stout.

The brewery describes the new Cannoli Edition as a special variation of its classic Speedway Stout, layering rich roasted coffee with cocoa nibs and vanilla while aiming to capture the flavors of the beloved Italian pastry.

That gives us a fairly clear picture of the intended direction, although we’ll have to wait until we actually taste Speedway Stout Cannoli before making any claims about the finished beer.

Pistachios are an especially interesting addition here, since they help distinguish this release from some of the more familiar chocolate, vanilla, and coffee combinations found in pastry stouts.

Speedway Stout Cannoli features a 12% ABV imperial stout

Like the other specialty Speedway Stout releases, AleSmith Speedway Stout Cannoli brings some serious strength to the table.

At 12% ABV, this new imperial stout sits firmly in the bigger beer category, offering the kind of alcohol content that Speedway Stout drinkers have come to expect from the brewery’s specialty releases.

The combination of roasted coffee, cacao nibs, vanilla, and pistachios also gives AleSmith plenty of ingredients to work with when building the dessert-inspired character of the beer.

And that cannoli connection.

The brewery’s description specifically mentions sweet cream, chocolate, and flaky pastry notes, suggesting that AleSmith is aiming for something beyond a straightforward coffee stout with a little vanilla added.

We’ll be interested to see how those individual ingredients come together, particularly whether the pistachio character remains noticeable alongside the stronger roasted coffee and chocolate elements.

AleSmith Speedway Stout Cannoli can design and packaging

The new AleSmith Speedway Stout Cannoli packaging follows the familiar visual identity of the Speedway Stout series, with a few changes that help identify this latest variation.

The label features a black background, olive-green checkerboard graphics, prominent white Speedway Stout lettering, and the familiar AleSmith Brewing Company anvil logo.

A circular Cannoli Edition emblem appears on the front, incorporating crossed racing flags into the design. The packaging also includes the words “Rich • Chocolatey • Smooth” above the main beer description.

The ingredient list confirms vanilla, pistachios, cacao nibs, coffee, and natural flavors, while the lower portion of the label identifies the beer as a 12% ABV imperial stout packaged in a one-pint can.

AleSmith also includes suggested serving information, recommending a goblet, a serving temperature of 50–55°F, and gelato as a food pairing.

A fitting dessert pairing.

When will AleSmith Speedway Stout Cannoli be released?

An official release date for AleSmith Speedway Stout Cannoli has not yet been confirmed, but the appearance of this new packaging gives Speedway Stout fans another upcoming specialty beer to watch.

We’re also waiting for additional information regarding pricing, distribution, and whether the Cannoli Edition will receive a wider retail release or more limited availability.

For anyone who follows the AleSmith Speedway Stout series, this latest imperial stout brings together several familiar pastry stout ingredients while adding pistachios and an Italian dessert theme to the brewery’s established coffee stout foundation.

Stay tuned to mybeerbuzz.com for additional AleSmith Speedway Stout Cannoli release details, availability updates, and tasting notes once we have an opportunity to try this new 12% ABV imperial stout.

About AleSmith Brewing Company – San Diego, California

AleSmith Brewing Company is an award-winning craft brewery based in San Diego, California, recognized for producing world-class imperial stouts, West Coast IPAs, specialty ales, and innovative limited-release beers. Founded in 1995, AleSmith has become one of the most recognizable names in San Diego craft beer, building a reputation around traditional brewing techniques, carefully selected ingredients, and a portfolio that includes several highly regarded American craft beers.

The brewery was originally established in San Diego by Skip Virgilio and Ted Newcomb, with Peter Zien acquiring AleSmith in 2002. Under Zien’s leadership, AleSmith Brewing Company continued expanding its production, distribution, and reputation while maintaining a strong connection to the San Diego brewing community.

Today, AleSmith is particularly well known for its Speedway Stout series, a collection of coffee-infused imperial stouts that has developed a dedicated following among craft beer enthusiasts.

AleSmith Speedway Stout and its specialty variants

Speedway Stout remains one of the defining beers in the AleSmith Brewing Company portfolio. Originally introduced as a powerful imperial stout brewed with coffee, Speedway Stout helped establish AleSmith as a respected producer of rich, full-bodied dark beers.

The original Speedway Stout combines roasted malt character with coffee, chocolate-like flavors, and the substantial body associated with traditional imperial stout brewing. Its reputation has made it a familiar name among enthusiasts who enjoy stronger craft beers and specialty stout releases.

Over the years, AleSmith has expanded the Speedway Stout family through numerous limited-edition variations, incorporating ingredients such as vanilla, chocolate, coffee, nuts, and other dessert-inspired additions.

These specialty Speedway Stout releases allow the brewery to experiment with different flavor combinations while maintaining the recognizable foundation of its flagship imperial stout.

AleSmith Speedway Stout Cannoli continues that approach, introducing an Italian pastry-inspired imperial stout brewed with vanilla, pistachios, cacao nibs, coffee, and natural flavors.

At 12% ABV, the upcoming Speedway Stout Cannoli represents another substantial addition to the brewery’s specialty stout collection.

AleSmith Brewing Company’s craft beer portfolio

Although Speedway Stout remains one of its most recognizable offerings, AleSmith Brewing Company produces a diverse selection of craft beers spanning several styles.

Its portfolio includes AleSmith IPA, .394 San Diego Pale Ale, Nut Brown Ale, and several specialty and seasonal releases.

The brewery’s .394 San Diego Pale Ale was developed in collaboration with the family of legendary San Diego Padres player Tony Gwynn, creating a beer that celebrates Gwynn’s baseball career and his connection to the local community.

AleSmith IPA has also helped establish the brewery’s reputation among West Coast IPA enthusiasts, offering a hop-forward alternative to the company’s malt-focused and darker specialty beers.

This variety gives AleSmith the flexibility to produce approachable everyday beers alongside stronger, more experimental offerings such as Speedway Stout Cannoli.

Visiting AleSmith Brewing Company in San Diego

AleSmith Brewing Company operates its brewery and tasting room in San Diego’s Miramar neighborhood, an area widely recognized for its concentration of independent craft breweries.

The brewery’s production facility and tasting room are located at 9990 AleSmith Court, San Diego, California.

Visitors can explore the AleSmith beer lineup, enjoy fresh releases, and experience the brewery’s connection to San Diego’s craft beer community.

The facility also houses the Tony Gwynn Museum, celebrating the life and career of the Hall of Fame baseball player whose legacy remains closely connected to San Diego.

AleSmith continues to build on its brewing history through established favorites, specialty collaborations, barrel-aged offerings, and rotating limited releases.

For imperial stout enthusiasts, the Speedway Stout collection remains a major reason to follow the brewery’s upcoming announcements, particularly when new dessert-inspired variants are revealed.

The upcoming AleSmith Speedway Stout Cannoli adds another distinctive recipe to that collection, bringing together Italian pastry inspiration and the brewery’s established approach to producing coffee-forward imperial stouts.
