Ornery Beer Announces Closure of Fairfax City Brewpub
From Ornery Beer:
Ornery Fans,
We have some operational changes to announce as we move forward in 2026 and beyond. We are scaling back operations to adapt to current market conditions and become leaner.
Our Fairfax City Brewpub will be closing on Sunday July 26th. After nearly eight years of operation, we have not been able to overcome the financial difficulties and challenges with property expenses.
Our Herndon Brewpub and Bristow Taproom locations will remain open. The Bristow Taproom will undergo some changes. We will be relocating our Fairfax Pilot Brewery system to Bristow, reducing brewing capacity, selling large production equipment, and focusing on being a locally focused community brewery and taproom.
We appreciate your continued support.

The Ornery Beer Company has announced significant 2026 operational changes that reshape its footprint and redefine its future direction. In a detailed update to fans, the brewery confirmed that it is scaling back operations to remain sustainable in a challenging market environment. This shift marks a major moment for the brand, especially with the closure of its long‑running Fairfax City Brewpub.
After nearly eight years of serving the Fairfax community, the Fairfax City Brewpub will close on Sunday July 26th. The company explained that persistent financial difficulties and rising property expenses made continued operation impossible. The Fairfax location has been a central part of the Ornery Beer Company identity, and its closure represents both an emotional and strategic turning point.
Despite this change, the brewery is not retreating from its commitment to Northern Virginia craft beer culture. The Herndon Brewpub will remain open, continuing to serve as a community hub for local beer lovers. The Bristow Taproom will also stay open, but it will undergo a series of operational adjustments designed to streamline production and strengthen the taproom experience.
One of the most notable updates is the relocation of the Fairfax Pilot Brewery system to Bristow. This move consolidates brewing operations and allows the company to reduce overall brewing capacity while maintaining a strong lineup of locally crafted beers. Ornery Beer Company also plans to sell large production equipment as part of its shift toward a more focused, community‑driven model.
The company emphasized that these changes are intended to make Ornery Beer Company leaner, more adaptable, and better positioned for long‑term stability. By concentrating resources on the Herndon and Bristow locations, the brewery aims to deliver a more intimate, locally centered taproom experience that highlights small‑batch brewing and community engagement.
In closing, Ornery Beer Company expressed gratitude for the continued support of its fans. The brewery’s leadership reaffirmed its commitment to serving Northern Virginia with quality craft beer, meaningful community spaces, and a renewed focus on sustainable operations.
