Appalachian Brewing Announces Closure In Harrisburg After 28 Years
I’m sad to report that a brewery where I first discovered a love for better beer has closed. I’m talking about Applachian Brewing Company in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. The brewpub at 505 N Cameron St in Harrisburg closed officially on Saturday July 12th, however the Abbey Bar will remain open for events and the brewery will continue to brew beer at the location.
The brewery cites decreasing profits since Covid (many local government workers moving to remote work and no longer visiting downtown Harrisburg) . Applachian Brewing has stated that their other brewpubs in Lititz, Carlisle, Gettysburg and Silver Springs will remain open and operational. Mug Club Members will be able to move thier Mug Club membership to other locations and Appalachian brewing is working to employ former Harrisburg workers to new locations.
According to our pal Artie Tafoya, “This decision was incredibly difficult, and we know it comes as a disappointment to many; we feel it too,“ ”For decades, the Harrisburg community has welcomed us, and we’re deeply grateful for your support, loyalty, and the memories we’ve shared.”
About Appalachian Brewing :
Our original Appalachian Brewing Company brewpub is located in historic Harrisburg, PA. The impressive three-story brick and heavy timber structure was built circa 1915. The lagering room portion of the brewery dates back to 1890. Throughout the brewery, antique brick walls, massive wooden beams, hardwood floors and ceilings provide a warmth and inner glow rivaled only by the beer itself. We are proud to be the first and only brewery in the Pennsylvania State Capital since 1951. ABC serves fresh innovative cuisine to match our tremendous handcrafted ales and lagers! We hope to see you soon and look forward to serving you and your friends often!
