A Visit from De Struise!
We have invited Urbain Coutteau of De Struise Brouwers to the U.S. to brew with us at our brewery in Alexandria, VA. Before his trip "down south," however, we will be hosting 2 very special events listed below!

De Struise Brouwers, opening in …the year 2000, is located in West Flanders, Belgium, close to the French border. They are currently one of the most progressive and innovative breweries in Europe. Since their fruition, they have been pushing the boundaries of traditional Belgian brewing with their barrel aging projects. They are constantly create unique beers and their portfolio ranges from very low "abv" to very intense high "abv" creations. Craft beer fan rating website Ratebeer selected beers from Struise for 9 of their Top 100 Best Beers of Belgium in 2009. Struise just missed the #1 slot only by the infamous Westvleteren 12. In 2008, RateBeer declared Struise to be the best brewers in the world per their annual members’ poll. Struise also received 7 separate awards from Ratebeer in 2007, including accolades for the Aardmonnik and Pannepot.

Struise’s beers are constantly ranked amongst the best in the world, and it is a tremendous opportunity to have him to Philadelphia!

We will have an intimate, educational/technical brewing discussion with a tasting of 4 special beers in addition to brewing a small 5 gallon batch of beer! Urbain will give insight on his brewing techniques and recipe formulation.

7pm: 5-course Pig Dinner | 7pm | $75pp | Only 2 seats left!
Our kitchen will be preparing an entire pig for the dinner, focusing on a different portion of the animal for each course. The pig is sourced from Green Meadow Farms in Gap, PA. It is a 300lbs Tamworth Yorkshire Heritage pig, 100% pasteur raised, and in addition to foraging for roots, it was also cornfed.
This will be a rare opportunity to dine and indulge in discourse with one of the most highly regarded brewers in the world! Additionally, you will experience a very unique meal designed to pair elegantly with each beer!
Course 1:
BELLY: Lemon, Parsnip, Coffee
Beer: Black Damnation VII – Single Black {draft} | ultra low ABV beer coming in at 2%, but still jet black in color w/ bitter coffee notes
Course 2:
HEAD: Hop Shoots, Watercress, Plum Jam
Beer: ‘t sjeeses reserva 2010 {bottle} | belgian tripel aged in oak barrels for 8 months.
Course 3:
SHOULDER: Pine Wrapped, Malt Sausage, Apple Sauce, Fork Potatoes
Beer: Shark Pants {draft} (3 Floyds Collaboration) {draft} | 288IBU’s – Imperial IPA
Course 4:
RACK: Molasses Basted, Ramps, Coffee Salt
Beer: Black Damnation III – Black Mes {draft} | Black Albert aged for 3 months on Islay Scotch Whiskey barrels that once held “Caol Ila’s Distillers Version 1995″ whiskey
Course 5:
CRACKLINS: Chocolate Rum Ice Cream, Molasses, Citrus Ash, Pork Cracklins
Beer: Black Damnation IV – Coffee Club {draft} | Black Albert aged for 6 months on very old rum barrels
