Celis Brewery Returns To Austin, TX & Hires Ampersand Ad Agency

An Austin brewery that shut down more than a decade ago has been tapped back to life.

Christine Celis, daughter of Belgian brewer Pierre Celis, plans to use an existing facility to begin producing beer as soon as possible.

The family has been developing plans for a new brewery for some time and can begin to move forward since the family name has been reclaimed, Christine Celis said.

Miller Brewing Co. closed the Celis brewery in Northeast Austin’s Walnut Creek Business Park in December 2000, selling it along with the Celis trademark.

Pierre Celis established the beer recipe in Belgium in 1966 and moved brewing operations to Austin in 1992.

Celis brewery has hired The Ampersand Agency  to help make its Austin comeback a smooth one.

The local branding and interactive media company will serve as agency of record for Celis, which plans to begin brewing again this fall after being shut down more than a decade ago.

Ampersand will develop all branding aspects for Celis, including planning social media events. The agency will unveil a new logo and beer bottle packaging in the next two months.

“For those who remember the famous parties at the brewery and Pierre’s famous accent, all I can say right now is hold on — you’re in for a real treat,” Ampersand CEO Cindy Holladay said in a press release.
