SQUAMISH, BRITISH COLUMBIA–(Marketwire – Oct. 4, 2012/mbb/) – Howe Sound Brewing proudly announces the release of "Pumpkineater" in BC, Alberta, Ontario, Newfoundland and Washington.
Harvesting pumpkins in cool, autumn farm fields has been a rite of passage every fall, but fermenting Imperial Pumpkin Ale is a new way of sharing taste and thanks for the harvest. Howe Sound Brewing is again releasing their autumn Imperial "Pumpkineater" with great anticipation, and farther afield. Reflecting the farm market and flavor of local fruits and vegetables, Pumpkineater has had a cult like following since its inception in 2009.
With the taste of "pumpkin pie in a bottle", Pumpkineater stirs the memories of pumpkin harvesting and gargantuan bites of pumpkin pie. Pumpkineater is a combination of pumpkin, spices and malted barley. An unfiltered 8% alc./vol. ale, Pumpkineater delivers an extraordinary taste and aroma while maintaining a spicy finish for the palate. Only 100% natural pumpkin is used in this beer. These ingredients make for an authentic pumpkin flavour, aroma and taste to the palate.
"Craft breweries are creating a lot of unique flavours today. Pumpkin ales are one of the seasonal beers that are now an integral part of the craft beer scene. Pumpkins actually have a long history in brewing, as they were used to stimulate fermentation in ales when barley was difficult to purchase during the 16th century. The use of vegetables and fruits in beers today is one of the innovative approaches craft brewers have to create new beer flavours," said Franco Corno, head brewer at Howe Sound.
A high-gravity pumpkin ale brewed with barley, fresh roasted pumpkin, hops, cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg, star anise, water and yeast, it is one of the local seasonal favorites. This beer is produced in limited quantities each fall as part of the John Mitchell series. Pumpkin beers are a unique representative of the craft brewing market, as consumers look for a wider variety of seasonal, local and inspired flavours throughout the year. Over the last three years, pumpkin ales have been growing in interest and uniqueness.
Pumpkineater is a double medal winner in Canada and the US, winning bronze at the Canadian Brewing Awards 2012, and bronze at the North American Brewers Awards 2012.
Pumpkineater is available in draft and bottles, as a seasonal limited offering from September through November and is one of the first pumpkin beers to be widely distributed throughout BC, Alberta, Ontario and Washington State. Pumpkineater will be available through the LDB, LCBO, restaurants, pubs and private liquor stores or through Howe Sound Brewing Company.
