From Vanberg & DeWulf:
This November Vicaris Winter will make its first ever appearance in the United States. Available in Keg form only, don’t fail to try this rare and delicious Christmas offering from the ever-inventive Dilewyns.
Vicaris Winter ale pours an intense dark brown, almost black. The nose is a warming mix of licorice and ground coffee. Flavore of anise, sweet molasses and roasted coffee dominate the palate. Like all of Dilewyn’s offerings, Vicaris Winter is never filtered. Instead it is only cold clarified by lagering for at least one month. This is one reason why the beer is so well attenuated and smooth. You would never guess it was 10% ABV.
Dilewyns is winning more and more kudos and founder Anne-Catherine is being recognized as a rising star talent both in the world of Belgian brewing and the realm of women in the industry. Vicaris Winter is simply the latest proof of her prowess. Colin Hirsch of Serious Eats asserts that:
“Beer runs through Anne-Catherine’s veins: her great-great grandmother founded a brewery here in the late 1800s, and her father, Vincent Dilewyns, is one of Belgium’s most decorated home brewers. It’s dad’s recipes that inform such beers as the fruity, beguiling Vicaris Tripel, but it’s Dilewyns’ poise and hard work that are earning her beers accolades. (Somehow it makes sense that Dilewyn’s beers are being imported by another industry veteran, Wendy Littlefield of Vanberg & DeWulf).”
