The Commons Brewery – Brotherly Love Bourbon Barrel Dark Strong Ale Coming 2/28

Brotherly Love is our Belgian Dark Strong Ale, Little Brother, aged in second-use Bourbon barrels with sour cherries and a 50/50 blend of Trinidad and Peru-grown cacao nibs roasted by our friends, Woodblock Chocolate, in SE Portland.

Originally brewed for Brewpublic’s My Beery Valentine event and resulting in an initial 150 bottle release in 2012, production was increased this year to yield 160 cases. This year’s vintage has a deeper chocolate note provided by the nibs selected during a tasting with Woodblock Chocolate and a greater malt presence from increased specialty malts.

Brotherly Love will be available in 750ml capped bottles for $12 per bottle with no limit. On the release day we will have both the 2013 and 2014 versions on tap as well as the base beer: Little Brother. All three will be available in a taster flight for $8.

The Beetje Series is a celebration of The Commons Brewery’s nano roots. First brewed in 2010 on a one-barrel system in Mike Wright’s garage, these small batch beers pay homage to the rustic brewery that continues to inspire us.

The Commons Brewery opened in December 2011 and crafts small batch, approachable and balanced beers inspired by European brewing tradition and Northwest-grown ingredients. The tasting room is located at: 1810 SE 10th Avenue, Unit E (entrance on SE Stephens between 10th & 11th). Tasting room hours are Thursday 5-9pm, Friday 5-9pm, Saturday 2-9pm, and Sunday 2-6pm.
