Renowned Canadian brewery’s 25th anniversary beer wins top honors at World Beer Awards

North America (Oct. 10, 2018) – The 25e Blonde de l’Enfer by Unibroue was crowned “World’s Best Pale Beer” at the 2018 World Beer Awards, an annual competition involving over 2,300 beers from more than 50 countries.

The final round was held in London, where a winner was chosen for each of the nine categories. To win its category, 25e Blonde de l’Enfer was blind tasted and scored across three rounds of judging by a world-class judging panel made up of 100 international brewers, industry experts and journalists.

“Once again the winners in the World Beer Awards show an exciting snapshot of some of the best beers being brewed across the globe today,” said Adrian Tierney-Jones, Chair of the World Beer Awards.

Like the demonic entities it draws inspiration from, 25e Blonde de l’Enfer (Blonde from Hell) is deceptively powerful, clocking in at an imperceptible 10.5% ABV. This devilishly delicious, complex yet smooth ale intermingles malty and citrusy flavors and is crowned with a pale straw head when poured. The refined balance of spice, malt and hop flavors, combined with a fine, champagne-like effervescence makes it the definitive beer for any holiday feast. The “Blonde from Hell” makes a heavenly pairing with chicken, turkey or smoked fish, along with soft cheeses (brie or camembert) or even a sumptuous crème brûlée.

“Winning a WBA is very gratifying, considering that you first have to win a country award, followed by a competition against other countries and continents in a particular style,” says Jerry Vietz, Unibroue Brewmaster. “So, to prevail through all that and then go one step further to win one of only nine best of class worldwide category awards, it’s especially rewarding”.

25e Blonde de l’Enfer was made available in the fall of 2017 as a limited release.
