Fullers Collaborates With Chiswick Residents On Jekyll & Hyde

We’ve been brewing in Chiswick for nearly 170 years. It’s where every drop of Fuller’s beer is made and where the Fuller’s name was born, so when an opportunity arose to join forces with a few locals, we jumped at the chance.

Last week saw the release of Jekyll and Hyde, a Chiswick beer through and through. Brewed right here at the Griffin Brewery, brewing manager Georgina Young worked with local residents David Arnoff and Penny Barltrop to produce Jekyll and Hyde. Using hops grown in David and Penny’s garden, the hops were picked in September and dried in one of our hop stores to allow them to reach their optimum flavour.

The beer is described as having a distinctive malty base and a rich balance of well-developed hop flavours with a tawny colour. The local hops make the brew especially refreshing with noticeable bitter aftertastes. So why the name? Georgina explains:

“The name Jekyll and Hyde was thought of by local resident and hop grower, David Arnoff, and does come from the plot of the well-known story. We have added these local hops to one of our recipes, and so changing the characteristics of the beer and paying homage to the fantastic language of rhyming slang that our city knows so well.”

Keeping to the local theme, the beer was available at the brewery tap, The Mawson Arms, and The Cross Keys, Hammersmith. Each pub had one firkin to serve alongside their other Fuller’s ales. With no price set for a pint, drinkers were encouraged to make a charitable donation of their choice, with proceeds going to Cancer Research UK.
