If there ever was a year in need of holiday cheer, it’s 2020.  And luckily, one of the most beloved holiday traditions is returning this season – Anchor Christmas Ale by Anchor Brewing Company.  Stay tuned for the release of our 2020 edition very soon!

Anchor Christmas Ale was born in 1975—the first holiday beer released in America since Prohibition.  Former Anchor Brewmaster and owner Fritz Maytag wanted to start a unique holiday tradition that would carry an air of mystery and excitement.  Every year since, Anchor Christmas Ale has released with a new, secret recipe and different hand drawn label inspired by the times.  You can view all of our past labels here.  Anchor Christmas Ale is only available from November – January each year, nationwide in 6-packs of 12oz bottles and beautiful gold-foiled magnum bottles.

The beloved winter warmer was a Pale Ale for many years, but has since evolved with the addition of new, exotic spices.  Today, Christmas Ale sits firmly in the category of a Spiced Brown Ale, perfect for enjoying on a chilly winter day or around a campfire.  Christmas Ale can easily replace a dessert while also pairing nicely with a savory meal.

The brand-new 2020 Anchor Christmas Ale will be announced in just a couple of weeks, and plenty samples will be available.  Anchor’s brand-new Brewmaster Tom Riley will also be available for media interviews at that time.  We hope that you can keep this treasured holiday tradition in mind this season.
