It seems like just yesterday that I was loading up my cooler with Oskar Blues Dale’s Pale Ale and enjoying them on the beach… and as much as this was a long time ago, the beer and brewery remain one of my favorites. I interviewed Dale Katechis (the namesake of Dale’s Pale Ale and the other Dale’s variants) back in 2012, and from there I was hooked.

Back in 2023, I reviewed the latest variants (Pale Ale, Light Lager & Double IPA), and I knew even then that these beers would be among my favorites. With that in mind, I was excited to see news of a new “Dale” and that very same beer arriving at mybeerbuzz headquarters today with Dale’s American IPA.

Here are the details from Oskar Blues:

This month, Oskar Blues – the trailblazing craft brewery that brought the first craft beer in a can to life in 2002 with Dale’s Pale Ale – is expanding the iconic Dale’s beer line with a new, all-American addition: Dale’s American IPA, a confident, classic West Coast-style IPA that is full-flavored, familiar, and remarkably drinkable.

Bold without being brash, expressive yet balanced, this 7% ABV IPA is hop-forward and approachable. Featuring a clean profile of citrus, pine, and herbal freshness, rounded out by a modern malt build, Dale’s American IPA is a timeless brew for those who value the flavor of hops. Like your favorite black t-shirt, it’s always in style.

“IPA is the most iconic style in American craft beer,” says Aaron Baker, Brand Director, Oskar Blues Brewery. “And the roots of the Dale’s lineup are in hop-forward, aggressive but approachable beers. With American IPA, we found the classic balance of hop flavor between familiar and fearless – an American quality of pushing boundaries but staying grounded.”

This new offering joins the Dale’s family, inclusive of the brand’s classic Dale’s Pale Ale, Dale’s Light Lager and Double Dales IPA, as well as Easy IPA and Designated Dales NA Pils, which launched in Fall 2024.

Dales American IPA will be shipping to select states this month and will be nationally available by Fall 2025 in 6-packs of 12 oz cans and on draft. It is currently available on tap at the Oskar Blues Brewery taprooms in Brevard, NC and Longmont, CO. As the official beer of USA Curling, American IPA will be featured along with the full Dale’s lineup at curling clubs throughout the U.S. and key curling events throughout the remainder of 2025 and into the 2026 season, timed to the 2026 Winter Olympic Games.

Label Text Oskar Blues Dale’s American IPA:

“When American craft brewers got their hoppy hands on the India Pale Ale style, there was no looking back. Now there are more IPA trends than influencer skin care routines, Dale’s approach is to “keep it classic.” This timeless American IPA is in the West Coast style – chock full of citrusy, herbal, and fresh pine notes that’ll renew your obsession with hops. Like a black t-shirt, it’s always in style.”

Of course, I can’t wait to enjoy this one, so off we go.2025 Oskar Blues Dale's American IPA 12-oz Cans Sideways

Brewery Description: When American craft brewers got their hoppy hands on the India Pale Ale style, there was no looking back. Now there are more IPA trends than influencer skin care routines. Dale’s approach is to “keep it classic.” This timeless American IPA is in the West Coast style – chock full of citrusy, herbal, and fresh pine notes that’ll renew your obsession with hops. Like a black t-shirt, it’s always in style.

ABV: 6.9%-AbV
Style:  India Pale Ale
Packaging:  12oz cans
Hops: Chinook/Citra/Simcoe/Strata
Appearance:  Bright Yellow
Aroma:  Citrus, floral, herbal, and piney
Mouthfeel:   Medium
Taste:   Bright citrus, earthy resinous pine, and mild herbal hops
Overall: I should say up front that I may have just discovered my new favorite west coast-style IPA in Dale’s American IPA. The beer has a really tasty citrus and piney hop mix and a really drinkable balance, making it not just a good IPA but a really good beer regardless of style. The mix of herbal, earthy, and floral hops is balanced nicely by the sharp citrus hops, making for an extremely enjoyable IPA. I only wish I could enjoy one on the beach, but that will have to wait.2025 OPskar Blues Dale's American IPA Label

Overall, I’m really pleasantly surprised at just how good Oskar Blues Dale’s American IPA is. The blend of hops makes for a really classic drinking experience, and the finish is crisp and clean, leaving you wanting another (and another). This beer will be spending a lot of time in my refrigerator, and I suspect that after you try one for yourself, you’ll feel the same. Dale’s American IPA is available now in 12-oz cans, so get out there and try one for yourself, and when you do try it, be sure to let us know what YOU think.

About Oskar Blues Brewery:

Founded in 1997 in Lyons, Colorado, Oskar Blues Brewery launched the craft-beer-in-a-can apocalypse with their voluminously hopped, hand-canned brew, Dale’s Pale Ale. Today, Oskar Blues operates breweries in Colorado, North Carolina and Texas, brewing and canning boundary stomping craft beer like Can-O-Bliss IPA, Dale’s Pale Ale, Oskar’s Lager, the CANundrum Mix Pack and more. Oskar Blues beers are available nationwide in the US and in more than 15 countries. Oskar Blues Brewery is a proud member of CANarchy, a disruptive collective of like-minded craft brewers dedicated to bringing high-quality, innovative flavors to drinkers in the name of independent craft beer.

In 1997 Oskar Blues opened its doors at 303 Main Street in Lyons Colorado. The mission wasn’t brewing beer, but imparting a slice of southern hospitality into the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. Offering homemade cajun style cooking and a relentless line-up of world class blues musicians that would keep the parties going into the early hours.

The bar had a unique style that drew people in from all around. With a background in homebrewing, Dale figured this special place deserved its its own signature drink, something as bold and captivating as the music and food that everyone loved.

In 2002 a spam fax printed out in the Oskar Blues office selling beverage equipment, including a hand can seamer. What easily could have been crumpled up and tossed in the bin, sparked an idea that would revolutionize the craft beer industry. Supporting the avid outdoors-people of Colorado meant the frustrating reality of glass bottles in the outdoors. A dangerous proposition that in many places isn’t even legal. But maybe the can wasn’t getting the credit it deserved. So, the hand-seemer was purchased, cans were printed and the rest is history.

Today, Oskar Blues has production facilities in Longmont, Colorado and Brevard, North Carolina that deliver the freshest craft beer across the country and create a wide variety of amazing small batch beers only found at our taprooms. We’ve tapped and canned thousands of different beers over the course of the last 20+ years, but one things remains true; Oskar Blues will never stop celebrating the undiscovered shapers and makers, the friends and folks that remind you where you stand, smack dab in the middle of really good time, drinking a really good beer.
