Today I’m bringing you another brightly flavored, fruit‑forward sour ale from the endlessly creative team at Prairie Artisan Ales, and this one looks like a fun, candy‑inspired addition to their growing lineup of fruited sours. The brewery is gearing up to debut Ruby Rancher, a new sour ale with artificial cherry flavors that leans into Prairie’s signature blend of tart acidity, playful adjuncts, and bold, nostalgic flavor profiles.

Ruby Rancher will clock in at a sessionable 4.8% ABV, making it an easy‑drinking, flavor‑packed sour designed for warm‑weather sipping, mixed‑pack variety releases, and fans who love Prairie’s sweeter, fruit‑driven offerings. Packaged in 12‑oz cans, this new release fits perfectly into the brewery’s ongoing rotation of colorful, candy‑themed, dessert‑inspired beers that continue to draw national attention.

A New Cherry‑Forward Sour From Prairie Artisan Ales

Prairie Artisan Ales has built a reputation for crafting some of the most inventive and expressive sour ales in the modern craft beer landscape. From their heavily fruited smoothie‑style sours to their tart, candy‑inspired creations, Prairie consistently delivers beers that are both playful and expertly executed. Ruby Rancher appears to follow that tradition, offering a bright, cherry‑driven flavor profile layered over a crisp, tart base.

The use of artificial cherry flavors suggests a bold, nostalgic character, think classic cherry candy, ruby‑red fruit notes, and a sweet‑tart balance that complements the beer’s underlying acidity. At 4.8% ABV, Ruby Rancher is positioned as a refreshing, approachable sour ale that invites repeat pours without overwhelming the palate.

Why Ruby Rancher Fits Perfectly Into Prairie’s 2026 Lineup

As the demand for fruited sours and candy‑inspired beers continues to grow, Prairie remains one of the most recognizable names in the category. Their ability to blend whimsical concepts with high‑quality brewing techniques has made them a favorite among collectors, casual drinkers, and fans of bold, expressive flavors.

Ruby Rancher arrives at a moment when:

  • Sessionable sour ales are gaining traction
  • Cherry‑flavored beers are seeing renewed interest
  • 12‑oz can formats remain the preferred packaging for national distribution
  • Candy‑inspired craft beers continue to trend across social media and taproom releases

This new sour ale is poised to become a standout in Prairie’s 2026 lineup, especially for fans who enjoy the brewery’s fruit‑heavy, flavor‑forward approach.

What to Expect From Ruby Rancher

While full tasting notes and release timing are still forthcoming, early details point to:

  • Style: Sour ale with artificial cherry flavors
  • ABV: 4.8%
  • Packaging: 12‑oz cans
  • Flavor Profile: Bright cherry candy, tart acidity, crisp finish
  • Availability: Expected as part of Prairie’s 2026 seasonal or rotating sour series

Given Prairie’s track record, Ruby Rancher will likely deliver a vibrant, juicy, sweet‑tart experience with the kind of bold flavor punch that fans have come to expect.

Final Thoughts

The upcoming release of Ruby Rancher adds another exciting chapter to Prairie Artisan Ales’ ever‑expanding catalog of creative sour ales. With its artificial cherry flavor, 4.8% ABV, and 12‑oz can packaging, this 2026 release is shaping up to be a fun, flavorful addition to the brewery’s lineup—perfect for fans of candy‑inspired beers, fruit‑forward sours, and Prairie’s unmistakable brewing style.

Stay tuned for official release details, tasting notes, and distribution updates as Prairie Artisan Ales prepares to roll out Ruby Rancher in the months ahead.

About Prairie Artisan Ales:

We’ve been brewing beer in Oklahoma since before it was a state.
Our first beers were brewed in the bathtub of Italian immigrants for the coal-mining clientele of a southeast Oklahoma restaurant (yum, right?). Back then, it was illegal to sell or even possess beer in our state, but we did it anyway because we were super badass. Choc Beer, short for Choctaw Beer, was the colloquial name for those homebrewed beers that we were originally serving illegally from Pete’s Place – the Italian restaurant that is still crankin’ out fresh pasta and lamb fries in Krebs, Oklahoma today.

The (Legitimate) Brewery is Born
Much later, in 1995 (when it was legal), the brewery that would become Krebs Brewing Company was founded, and we started selling Choc Beer with legitimacy. Zach Prichard, the owner/operator of our brewery, is a fourth-generation brewer. Pete’s Place is named for Zach’s Great Grandpa Pete – and the tradition has been carried through Grandpa Bill, and Zach’s parents, Joe & Kathy. We are the oldest brewery in the state of Oklahoma.

Prairie Artisan Ales + Krebs Brewing Company
In 2012, Prairie Artisan Ales was founded by brothers – experienced brewer, Chase Healey, and an artist with an unforgettable style, Colin Healey. The fledgling brewery immediately teamed up with Zach and the crew, and together they brewed the very first Prairie beer, a farmhouse ale simply called “Prairie Ale.” In 2013, we brewed the first batch of Bomb!, our flagship imperial stout. In 2016, Krebs Brewing Company formally acquired the Prairie Artisan Ale brands.

Living. Laughing. Loving.
Demand for our beers exploded, and our distribution footprint began to grow. Today, we’re distributed in more than 40 states in the US, all across Europe, South America, several countries in Asia, and in Australia. In 2017, we opened a taproom in Oklahoma City, where you can try Prairie classics, as well as fresh beers brewed on site. We’re honored to have won many awards, appeared on several “best all-time beer” lists, and have participated in some of the world’s most prestigious and exclusive beer festivals.

We Like to Make Cool Beer.
Our focus is on delighting our customers with cool beers that people are excited to drink, with wildly creative artwork that demands your attention. We’re especially known for our big ol’ imperial stouts and our innovative sour ales, but no style is off limits for our menagerie of talented brewers. Our beers are exciting, new, contemporary, and (we think) super cool – but they’re also backed by nearly 100 years of brewing experience. We’ve come a long way since illegal bathtub beers, but the passion and innovation is still there!
